About

Africa MontageAfrica changes a person. It grows in you like the glowing warmth of a good shot of warmed Kahlua on a Winter’s evening. It is a special continent — the cradles of human kind and civilization can be found on this land mass shaped like a skull’s side view.

My parents and I moved to Nairobi, Kenya, when I was 2 years old. I don’t remember anything before 3 years old, so I thought I was born there. We lived on campus at Kenyatta College, now Kenyatta University.

That was 1969 to 1971, and things were much different then. The elephants were plentiful and the world seemed a bit safer. Then again, I was a toddler.

My dream, for many years now, has been to write a combination memoir, travelogue and ecological/conservation themed book compiled from memories, stories my parents tell me and research. Someday — I hope within the next six years — to return to the place I grew up and write this book, comparing my memories to that fateful day’s realities.

This website will be where I’ll post my journey to the fruition of that dream.
