Sprocket Conquers RichThe other day, while I was putting on my shoes to take Sprocket for a walk, I was inspired to write a few haiku about her. I share them with you here:

Four-legged smile
The dog of my heart and dreams
Sprocket, I love you

Looks up with loving brown eyes
You are so precious

I bask, yes bask, in
her glorious dogginess

The Silver Lining to Unemployment

Clean DoggieThe other day, I was thinking how much I’m enjoying spending time with my wonderful dog, Sprocket. And then it occurred to me that being between jobs has its perks. The past month I’ve been able to really enjoy my dog’s company and spend quality time with her.

We go for three, sometimes long, walks every day.

I spend about an hour a day grooming her.

I spend time just watching her exist.

I even snap photos of her in her various poses. Here are just a few.

Oh! And I write songs about her, too. My latest goes to the tune of The Pussycat Dolls’ song, Don’t Cha:

Sprocket at the VetDon’t cha wish your doggie was a cute as mine? Don’t cha?

Happy May!

Random Thought for the Day

If happy thoughts truly could make you fly, my feet would rarely touch the ground as long as Sprocket was in my life.

I just love my dog!

Dec. 11, 2005: Fun Grumbling About the Weather

| del.icio.us | Furl | Spurl | StumbleUpon | Yahoo MyWeb |

This week we had a snowstorm and I got to drive to work in it. It was fun, really. I love driving 40mph on the freeway.

Well, in light of all this winter frivolity, I thought I’d share with you two things: a song about the weather and a picture from Sprocket’s run in the snow last January.

First, the song, sung to the tune of “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.”

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But in here it’s not so delightful
The furnace is turned down low
Stop the Snow! Stop the Snow! Stop the Snow!

It doesn’t show signs of stopping
And knuckles, they won’t stop popping
I can’t get warmth from the Christmas tree’s glow
Stop the Snow! Stop the Snow! Stop the Snow!

When its time to go to work
How I’ll hate going out in the storm
But if the heater will quickly work
All the way there I’ll be warm

Oh, my muscles are sore from shiv’ring
And my neck is stiff from hunching
But as long as I have to go
Stop the Snow! Stop the Snow! Stop the Snow!

Now, take a close look at Sprocket’s feet.

She only has three slippers on because she chewed off the missing one.

March 13, 2005 II: I Love My Dog

| del.icio.us | Furl | Spurl | StumbleUpon | Yahoo MyWeb |

In my humble opionion, or IMHO as netphiles might say, my dog is the cutest in the universe. And you just might agree if you saw her staring up at you, her head cocked to one side, her fruitbat ears up, her tongue hanging out and her tail wagging. But, you’ll just have to settle for her curled up in her bed, fresh from a bath last night.

Photo taken by Rich on 3/12/05. Bed purchased from Target. Towel purchased circa 1973. Green object in lower left corner is the foot of a frog chew toy purchased in 2004 at PetCo. The dog was found by the San Gabriel Humane Society and brought in to the pound on Feb. 14, 1995. She was lactating. I brought her home on March 25 of that year and have never regretted a momment.
