How Did I Do This Year?

resolution.jpgSomething I am learning about my annual goals process is that they are a lot more fluid than I thought. Life changes so much in a year that those things you set to accomplish for the year can cease to have meaning just a few months later and new goals take their place.

A case in point. For 2007, one of my goals was to update my wardrobe. Although I did buy a new pair of pants, not much was done toward this goal until this month. Since I moved back to Phoenix, I could, again, take advantage of the 50% off everything sale and buy some new cloths for cheap. Of course, this wouldn’t have been much of an issue if I hadn’t gotten laid off in April and injured in May, making my job search a bit difficult.
GOAL GRADE: C+

Another goal was to loose weight — something I’ve been struggling with for close to 10 years now. The NutriSystem plan, although a good one, didn’t work for me because I kept wanting to cheat, if only to have a meal with my husband! So I quit that last month, but have been trying to use the concepts behind it to continue the weight loss. Alas, my back pain has severely curtailed exercise, so I continue the struggle.
GOAL GRADE: F

Now here’s a goal that I was amazingly successful at: Go to a Chiropractor. I found one that was inexpensive, so even after loosing my job, I was able to continue care. He really helped me heal much of my injury and I even ended up getting a decent freelance job out of him — I designed his new website! But, now that I’m in Phoenix, I’ll have to find another chiro. I miss Dr. Black already.
GOAL GRADE: A+

I also wanted to catch up with all my friends. I wasn’t that good at that either. Although, by joining LinkedIn, I did accomplish this goal to some small degree.
GOAL GRADE: C

I really wanted to take The Genre Traveler to the next level, and I did make some progress. I re-designed the site and gave it much better functionality. However, the database project is still illusive, due to lack of funds. The photo contest didn’t work out, but I have hopes for improvement on that in 2008. I’m also working with a coach on improving my keywords for the website, which will help me get the word out.
GOAL GRADE: B

I’m too creative for my own good. The last goal I listed in January of this year was, finish launching Carma’s Cookery, which included getting the website finished and the E-books posted. I did re-design the website, as well as get a few of the e-books posted. I’ve even subscribed to a service that will help be build fresh content, as well as added a searchable recipe database (which needs to have recipes added — any volunteers?).

Of course, new goals are partially to blame for my so-so performance this year. I’ve added on several more websites to my network, and have moved my business in a new and exciting direction. But that, my friends, is a tale for my first post of the New Year.

Until then … Happy Holidays and a Very Prosperous New Year!
