Speaker
Carma Spence first became a speaker … much to her own surprise … when her speech teacher asked her to join the Speech Team her senior year. She took her speech on earthquakes to all the competitions that year and placed 5th place almost every time. Here efforts on the team that year also earned her a block in speech and a Degree of Honor with the National Forensic League.
Later, in 1989, she joined Toastmasters and earned her Competent Toastmaster (CTM) Award, and even worked half-way through to achieving her Able Toastmaster (ATM) award before life took her in other directions in 1994. She returned to Toastmasters in 2011 and earned her Competent Leader (CL) award in six months. She expects to earn her Advanced Communicator Bronze award (ACB, what used to be the ATM) before the end of 2012.
She has helped facilitate two Youth Leadership programs, a public speaking and leadership program offered by Toastmasters, to youth groups in the Long Beach area. She also volunteers her time mentoring fellow Toastmasters and designing her club’s quarterly newsletter.
Public speaking is a passion of hers and she speaks on a variety of topics, including business, online presence, public speaking, writing, and science fiction/fantasy/horror.
